Skukuza Lodge, Skukuza, Mpumalanga

The Project is located in Skukuza, Kruger National Park within the so called ‘ ‘high intensity leisure zone’. The lodge is located in the existing tourist camp.  The original (historic) sense of place, that many people held dear, was being compromised by the scale and development of new buildings, paved roads, petrol stations and large parking areas and the camp is now considered to be the most ‘commercial’ in the KNP and its original appeal is being lost to many.  The physical presence of the proposed new Lodge was investigated from a visual and sense of place impact perspective to determine it potential impact on visitors to the camp and the adjacent private lodge concessions.  Viewshed analyses, field work and computer modelling were used to determine the potential impact.
