![]() Tushenkompst Mine, Northwest Province As part of the environmental authorisation process, the visual impact of a proposed amendment to the mining operation was assessed against existing background conditions. Newtown Landscape Architects (NLA) was appointed by SLR to undertake a specialist visual impact study. The focus of the study was on the Tuschenkomst pit expansion, the waste rock dumps and the infrastructure in its general vicinity. The assessment was made up of two parts:
Using NLA’s approach to visual impact assessment along with viewshed analyses, computer modelling and extensive site visits (including an aerial reconnaissance), the significance of potential visual impacts was predicted and mitigation measures proposed to limit the visual impact of the proposed expansion project.
